Salem Police Make Arrest in Fatal Friday Night Shooting

Salem Police arrested a Salem woman early this Saturday morning after a domestic disturbance evolved into a fatal shooting late Friday night in the city.

Salem detectives have charged Wilma Jean Jones, 44, of Roanoke County with 2nd Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of Felony, and the Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon.

 On Friday, September 27, at 9:08 p.m. the Salem 911 Center received a call concerning a domestic dispute on Hale Avenue in the eastern quadrant of the city. Upon arrival, officers found an adult male who had been shot and was unresponsive. The victim, Joshua Dickson, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene by rescue personnel.

 Jones was taken into custody at the residence by Salem Police, and she is being held without bond. This incident remains under investigation. This is the first fatal shooting in the city this calendar year.
