Northwest Ace Hardware has made a generous donation to the Roanoke Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace thanks to hundreds of ride enthusiasts at the 2021 Salem Fair.
This year, fair fans purchased Megapass unlimited ride tickets at area Northwest Ace stores, before the fair began. Their spending allowed the Overstreet family, that owns and operates the chain of hardware stores, to donate $8,853 to the Sleep in Heavenly Peace mission of, “No kid sleeps on the floor in our town!”
“Our partnership with the Salem Fair this year worked out exceptionally well,” says Charlie Overstreet, Owner of Northwest Ace Hardware stores. “We were able to not only give our customers something new, but also make a real difference in the community by supporting the important work that this organization does.”
The 33rd Salem Fair attracted several hundred thousand visitors during its 12-day run at the Taliferro Complex. This year’s fair featured over 40 rides, unique concessions and a variety of family-friendly shows and musical acts each day.
“This Salem Fair has always strived to have a strong charitable component as part of its overall design,” said Wendy Delano, Salem’s Director of Civic Facilities. “This year we were honored to assist the Rescue Mission and the Salem-Roanoke County Food Pantry during the fair. And to now be able to take some of the Megapass proceeds and make a donation to Sleep in Heavenly Peace is incredible.”
Delano has participated in Sleep in Heavenly Peace construction events that feature volunteers from all walks of life coming together to make custom twin bunk beds for children, who currently must sleep on the floor. When the local chapter was started by Dave Jones, Northwest Ace Hardware was one of the first organizations to donate power tools.
“Sleep in Heavenly Peace is so thankful to receive this generous gift from Northwest Hardware and the Salem Fair,” says Jones, the Roanoke Chapter’s President. “The smile on a kid’s face, who receives one of these new beds, is priceless, and we are anxious to invest these funds in families who have a need and do our best to generate more of those smiles.”
