The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a commercial structure fire at 2132 Salem Industrial Drive Saturday night at approximately 8:07 p.m. The first units arrived within eight minutes of receiving the call and found heavy fire and smoke throughout the building. No one was at the H.M. Montgomery Trucking Company at the time of the fire.
It took firefighters more than two hours to bring the fire under control and the building did sustain a significant amount of damage. Heavy winds made fire-related operations more difficult and one Roanoke County firefighter did sustain a minor injury. That individual was transported to LewisGale Medical Center by ambulance.
Approximately 25 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 801, Medic 802, Medic 803, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) and the Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department (Wagon 9 & Air 9) responded to the call.
The fire remains under investigation by the Salem Fire Marshal’s Office and, currently, there is no damage estimate.
