In his 23 years as the coach of the Forensics team, now known as Speech, and the school's Debate team, he has won 20 VHSL State titles for the Spartans. Salem High School has won a state record 19 straight VHSL titles in Speech.
In addition, Ingerson's students have captured 103 individual event Speech state championships and an amassed 59 runner-up recognitions. His team members also have won 5 individual Debate state championships and recorded 3 runner-up designations.
He has been named the National Federation of State High School Association's outstanding speech and debate educator of the year twice in 2025 and 2012.
- Has coached 20 team state championships combined between Speech and Debate teams.
- Coached Speech (Forensics) VHSL State Championship teams 2006-2011, 2013-2025 for 18 total state championships. The program also won in 2012 coached by two former captains from the 2006 team for a record 19 consecutive VHSL state championships.
