The Department of Parks & Recreation provides the citizens of Salem with year round programs and activities, which are geared for all ages. Programs are divided into: Senior Citizens Center, James I. Moyer Sports Complex/Kiwanis Park, Adult Sports, Youth Sports, Community Activities and Special Events. The programs are operated with a full-time staff of 16 and a number of part-time staff such as field maintenance workers, instructors, game officials, summer special event workers, summer interns, sports clinic leaders and volunteer coaches.
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of citizens through professionally managed recreation programs, tournaments, and special events that foster economic impact, promote healthy lifestyles, social interaction, and civic pride among participants.

SALEM PARKS & REC ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
The Main Administrative Office of Salem Parks & Recreation on Florida Street is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.to 5 p.m.
SALEM PARKS - BATHROOMS
For the safety of patrons and workers, all bathrooms in Salem City Parks are now CLOSED.
SALEM PARKS FACILITIES
At this time, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam is encouraging folks to maintain social distancing, but utilize the outdoors. As a result, all Salem Parks and Greenway trails will remain open as “passive facilities”
Longwood Park, The Green Way, Tennis Courts, and Pickleball Courts remain open, as of March 26, 2020. All picnic shelter reservations are subject to the discretion of the renter and patrons should adhere to all social distancing guidelines.
As you are aware, this is a rapidly changing situation with an uncertain timetable. Any changes will be communicated thought normal channels, as quickly as possible. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
