Statement From City Manager Kevin Boggess

I am grateful to Forest Jones, Howard Packett and the other members of Salem City Council who gave me the chance to serve as Salem’s City Manager back in 2008. Working in Salem began as a great career opportunity for me and throughout my time here, it has been a tremendous experience. I have truly enjoyed the team of directors and employees that I worked with every day.

Salem is a phenomenal community that is emerging from a decade of recession with more investment and development activity than we have seen in many years. We have attracted some of the best developers in the state to invest in our downtown area and we have been awarded millions of dollars in downtown improvement grants to help build a streetscape that reflects the character of Salem.

The change in the City Manager position should not and will not change the great progress that we are experiencing.

Salem will be facing some difficult decisions in the next year with the need to fund the renovation of Salem High School balanced by the need to update City facilities and equipment that suffered neglect in the lean years. I hope that everyone will be thoughtful and supportive of our Council members as they wrestle with these challenges.

I am not certain what will be next for me, but I am looking forward to the opportunity to explore any and all the options.
