The City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department, along with Q99-FM, is all set to present the 10th annual “Winterfest Beach Bash” on Friday, February 3, at 6 p.m. at the Salem Civic Center.

The 42nd Annual Health Focus of Southwest Virginia Salem Distance Run is set for Saturday, August 13. The 5K, 10K and 3-mile Poker Walk events will once again start on Main Street in Downtown Salem and end at Longwood Park.

The 2016 “Salem After Five” concert series is down to the final two events of the season. On Friday, July 22, one of the region’s favorites, Domino, performs on the Salem Farmers Market stage. Gates open at 5 p.m. and the event gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with all proceeds benefiting the Local Office on Aging.

The City of Salem Parks and Recreation Department will continue its 2016 outdoor movie season at Longwood Park on Thursday, July 7. The ultra-popular movie “Minions” - featuring the voices of Sandra Bullock, Jon Hamm and Steve Carell will begin at dusk, around 9 p.m., and admission is absolutely free.

The 36th annual Chance Crawford Benefit Softball Tournament will be held this weekend, April 15-17, throughout the Roanoke Valley. The highly successful charitable tournament is a regional effort put on by the cities of Salem and Roanoke and the counties of Roanoke and Botetourt. For this year’s tournament, there are 140 teams representing Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland and Tennessee.
