Adam S. Lee, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of the Richmond Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has announced that Richmond FBI’s 2015 Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) recipient is Tom Bowers, Commonwealth Attorney for Salem, Virginia.

Commonwealth Attorney Bowers has worked tirelessly to organize a Heroin Prevention Initiative in the Roanoke, Virginia area to bring... groups of prevention, treatment, and education professionals together with law enforcement in Southwest Virginia to address the growing epidemic of heroin. The initiative is designed to bring awareness to the public of the staggering statistics related to prescription drug and heroin use among youth while simultaneously focusing on measures to help alleviate the damage to the community.

Other active partners in this Initiative include the Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition, the Prevention Council of Roanoke County, the Virginia State Police, the City of Roanoke Police Department, the Salem Police Department, the Vinton Police Department and the Roanoke County Police Department.

A formal award ceremony will be held at FBI Headquarters on April 15th, 2016 at which time Mr. Bowers will be presented the DCLA by Director Comey.
