Color Run Road Closures for April 22

Some roads near the Salem Civic Center will be temporarily closed for the Color Run event to be held on April 22. The route is the same as 2016 and the roads will be re-opened after the racers pass through each closed road. All road closures will be lifted by noon unless already opened.

Some Vehicles May Qualify for Property Tax Relief

City of Salem Commissioner of the Revenue, Linda M. Carroll, announced today that additional vehicles may now qualify for Personal Property Tax Relief (PPTR) from the Commonwealth of Virginia. This is due to legislative changes that were put in place during the 2016 session of the Virginia General Assembly.

Jim Chisom Reappointed to Salem City Council

City Council made James L. Chisom Salem’s newest council member during a specially called meeting this afternoon at City Hall. Chisom will fill the position that was vacated by Vice Mayor John Givens on October 24. Chisom will now serve out the remainder of that term, which expires on June 30, 2018.
