The City of Salem operates a Class I Community Waterworks. It opened its state-of-the-art water treatment facility on February 22, 2005. It is capable of producing 10 million gallons of drinking water a day for residential and business customers.
The Salem Water Treatment Plant Operation Team consists of 11 Class I Waterworks Operators and 1 Class II Waterworks Operator.

This prestigious award recognizes water treatment facilities in Virginia that operate in an exemplary manner and provide water quality that exceeds all of the minimum regulatory standards.
