New Year Begins With Fire on Horner Lane

The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire at 229 Horner Lane on Tuesday evening at approximately 9:07 p.m.  No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.

The first units arrived within six minutes of receiving the call and found heavy smoke coming from the building.  The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes of the first engine’s arrival. The house did sustain fire and smoke damage, but the fire was contained to the room where it originated.

Approximately 25 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Medic 801, Medic 802, Medic 803, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) and Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department (Wagon 9, Air 9 and Battalion 1) responded to the call.  The Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department (Engine 3 and Medic 52) also handled additional calls while units were on scene.

The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the fire and currently there is no damage estimate. The resident was displaced and is staying with family.
