Salem PD Accreditation Info Session is Monday

The Salem Police Department is in the process of complying with national law enforcement accreditation, through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA).

The department’s first on-site assessment is taking place this week August 12 -14 as CALEA assessors visit Salem and conduct an examination of all aspects of the department’s policy and procedure, management, operations and support services.

As part of this assessment, agency employees and members of the community are welcome to offer comments at a public information session Monday August 13, from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. This session will take place inside Council Chambers at City Hall, 114 N. Broad St., Salem Va. 24153.

Agency employees and members of the community also are invited to offer comments by calling 540-375-3010 on Tuesday August 14, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m.

Telephone comments and appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes per individual and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA standards.

CALEA standards are available for viewing Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Salem Police Department, 36 East Calhoun Street, Salem VA 24153.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Salem Police Department’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may send them to: The Commission on

Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA), 13575 Heathcote Blvd, Suite 320, Gainesville VA 20155.
