Structure Fire on Starview Displaces Four Residents

Home Posted on January 21, 2024

The Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to a structure fire this afternoon at approximately 2 p.m. on Starview Drive. The four residents who occupy the dwelling were not home when the fire started and, thankfully, no one was injured.

When firefighters arrived just five minutes after receiving the 911 call, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the rear of the structure and heavy smoke coming from the attic. Crews immediately began an interior fire attack and primary search of the building. A second water line was pulled to extinguish the flames in the attic.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control within 20 minutes of arrival, but the structure did sustain significant fire, smoke, and water damage.

Approximately 29 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department (Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Rescue 801, Medic 802, Medic 803, Battalion 1 & Fire Medic 1) and the Roanoke Fire & EMS Department (Engine 13, Ladder 5, & Battalion 2) responded to the call.

The residents were displaced by the fire, and they are being assisted by the American Red Cross. The fire remains under investigation by the Salem Fire Marshal’s Office. There is no estimate of damage currently.
