Vice-Mayor Anne Marie Green was elected to her first term on Salem City Council in November of 2024, but she is no stranger to local government.

From 1989 - 2019, Green was instrumental in the growth and advancement of Roanoke County. She began her career as the locality’s Public Information Officer and held that position for more than a decade. From 2000-2015, she served as the county’s Director of General Services and closed out her 30-year career as Roanoke County’s Human Resources Director.

In each of these positions, she worked with citizens, employees, media members, regional partners, and business executives and gained a wealth of invaluable experiences along the way.

Currently, Green serves as the President for the Council of Community Services. She has been the Chief Executive Officer of the non-profit since 2019. The organization provides a variety of services in the greater Roanoke Valley ranging from medical testing to prison outreach and homelessness prevention.

Green has a bachelor’s degree in history from William and Mary and she earned her law degree from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law. She also has a graduate certificate in local government management from Virginia Tech.

Throughout her career of service, Green has served on several local boards as both an officer and chairperson including The Blue Ridge Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce, and the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority.

Green is the second member of her family to offer her talents as a public servant. Her late husband, Woodford “Mac” Green, was a Salem Councilman and Vice-Mayor for 20 years. On January 13, 2025, she also was sworn-in as the vice-mayor for the city through December 31, 2026.

Her current term expires on December 31, 2028, and you can contact Council member Green here.
