The City of Salem Economic Development Authority Mural Grant Program is designed to encourage investment in the City by providing matching funds for murals on buildings within the City. The murals must highlight the city, and the Roanoke Valley Region, and encourage visitation to the City of Salem.
PROCESS
The Economic Development Authority will be responsible for reviewing and approving all mural request applications. The Economic Development Authority may also solicit permission from property owners to install a mural on their buildings within the city. These buildings will be considered strategic locations by the Economic Development Authority.
Applicants shall submit information on the building location, mural concept, artist, estimated cost, and building owner permission (license agreement if applicable). The Economic Development Authority may request additional information during the review process. The Program provides a 50% match on the mural cost up to a maximum of $7,500.
Once the mural is completed the artist and applicant shall provide a Transition of Rights on the mural to the City of Salem Economic Development Authority.
CRITERIA
- The subject building must be visible from a city street.
- The Economic Development Authority will approve the mural concept and artist.
- The mural concept highlights the City of Salem, Roanoke Valley Region, and encourages visitation to the City of Salem.
- The building owner or property tenant is submitting the mural grant application.
