The Salem Fire-EMS Honor Guard was first established in 2007 after three members in the department had the opportunity to attend the week-long National Honor Guard Academy. Since then, these members have trained others and Salem has eight personnel on the department's Honor Guard.
The Honor Guard/Color Guard, in conjunction with other valley Honor Guard members, provides a color detail for recruit school graduations, promotional ceremonies, fire officer seminars, and others events.
Apart from the color guard details, the primary mission of the Honor Guard is to pay tribute to and honor the firefighters and their careers who have died in the line of duty or after retirement. By honoring the profession, we honor those who have served it.
